Mindset Coach; Your Brain is Keeping You From Success

What is a Mindset Coach?

Simply put, a conscientious mindset coach is a dedicated coach that focuses on the client’s individual mindset, assisting them in their effort to become the very best version of themselves by helping them realize their full potential. These coaches do not attempt to force their own ideas or opinion upon their clients, in fact, they should never directly give advice or attempt to personally solve the client’s problems. Rather, they should empower their clients to take action themselves by asking focused questions to guide the client to personally identify and reach their own solutions.

Mindset Coaches will often help their clients with they type of mindset they have. They will also work with their clients to help them identify and overcome their limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs are the ones binding many clients to thoughts of inadequacy and keeping them from experiencing the success they deserve.

How do you Explain Mindset?

A mindset is a deep mental reference to personal beliefs that define qualities like talent or intelligence. It indicates if one believes they are permanent traits or malleable. This determines if you can change/grow them or if they are thought to be fixed in place.

What Is a Mindset?

There are two easily recognizable mindsets that separate many people into different camps.

Fixed:

Those with a fixed mindset tend to believe that the qualities we have, we are born with, are fixed, and therefore unchangeable.

Growth:

People with a growth mindset, however, believe that these abilities can be fostered, developed and even strengthened through determination, commitment and lots of hard work.

What is mindset training?

The belief that while you may currently hold a particular view, you are not permanently stuck with that frame of mind for the rest of your natural life.

While not everyone will blissfully agree that people are even capable of changing their mindsets. Many have, through explicit intent and dedicated practice altered their initial mindset or point of view. Focus on the process rather than the outcome. We are more able to understand that our efforts, hard work, and dedication can ultimately lead to change. Including, learning and growth both now and in the future.

What is coaching?

The essence of coaching is a desire or willingness to help another person change themselves mentally or physically as they wish and help them in their journey. Coaching is meant to support a person at each level as they transform becoming who they desire to become. Coaching builds awareness within the client that empowers choice and ultimately leads to personal change.

It is meant to simply unlock access to a person’s true potential that allows for maximum performance. Coaching is supposed to help clients learn rather than teach them.

Until recently, most coaching has been associated with sports. In fact, it has even been said, that every top athlete has a coach. This has been found true in many if not all other aspects of life. Including, but not limited to personal, spiritual, business, mindfulness, wealth, development, and many others.

It is now quite normal for someone to have a coach to help them achieve their goals. Goals, in both their life and work. Coaching always has been and continues to be a partnership between coach and client. The coach assists the client to achieve their personal best and produces desired results in their personal and professional lives.

The real beauty of a certified coach is they do not need to be an expert in their clients’ field. They can still guide them personally and professionally.

The science behind how a mindset coach helps

All humans have an innate desire internally to get and be better. Whether you are getting better from a battle with influenza or getting better at performance art, we all have it. This desire to become better is literally ingrained in our DNA. This desire to become better is one of the things that sets us apart and defines us as human.

Becoming better is something that we strive to do but strangely find very difficult. That’s because getting better at something means we cannot stay the same at it and so it requires change. Something about the way we are wired makes it very difficult to change int appears even our brains hate change. Our brains attempt to keep us the same if things are working. If you are fed, sleeping okay, and not freezing to death, your brain will say “keep things the way they are.”

The concept of the Lizard Brain

We want to be better at things and even learn to thrive. But our brain is so content with just focusing on keeping us alive by only doing what it already knows works, that the idea of change seems wrong and even dangerous. This concept is known by scientists as the Lizard Brain. According to them, we all have a Lizard Brain. The Lizard Brain is exceptionally good at helping humans survive and adapt to circumstances and situations as necessary.

However, it can and often drastically hurts humans’ ability to change their lives out of just raw desire. Lizard Brain keeps us stagnant, in our rut. It takes purposeful and deeply mindful efforts to overcome this stagnancy. Sadly imposed by the brains’ desire to simply survive (without any desire to thrive). Herein lies one of the major reasons you find yourself on social media sites at home or work. Often when you know you should be doing other things that would benefit you far more.

By yourself, you may not see the way to sidestep your Lizard Brain. Or how to engage your higher brain functioning to achieve the goals you have for yourself. That’s where a coach can make all the difference! With the guidance of proper coaching, you can begin to understand the workings of your brain a little better. Even form habits that will supersede any basic instincts you have lingering in the depths of your mind. Lifting you toward a better, happier, more productive future.

Types of coaching sessions

Mindset coaches provide unbiased feedback to help their clients improve. But there are times when everyone needs a wake-up call. Or a push in the right direction, a little help getting back on track. All too often our friends and family do not “have what it takes” to reach us at the place we can accept help. At other times they may not even recognize you even need the help.

A qualified mindset coach is specifically trained to help you stay on track and give you wake-up calls. They assist in breaking patterns that keep people stuck in their ruts. Breaking patterns such as this take getting together and speaking. Speaking can be done one-on-one, in groups, or with a combination of the two. Each type of meeting has its own unique benefits and drawbacks. It is up to you and your coach to see what experience is the best fit.

Groups/Workshops:

Group gatherings are most helpful in showing clients that the circumstances they are struggling with are not unique. Learning you are not alone can be a powerful tool to let you see the potential for success. Sharing our struggles and stories can create solidarity and a feeling of community.

Workshops can also create and foster a sense of collaboration. In everyday life communication between others is an integral part of living. It only makes sense to integrate it into the process of coaching as well. In business, meetings often take place to bring people together. In an attempt to improve business, but why can’t it be done to improve people? Brainstorming and working together is often the best way to solve problems.

Workshops and groups are a great way to take a closer look at yourself. Your progress and situation as well to assess if there is a new way to see it. This can create space to perceive it through the eyes of someone else.

One-on-One

One-on-one coaching can be an incredibly useful tool for effecting change in your life. A one-on-one approach allows for a strategically tailored program to meet your needs and desires. You and your coach work together as a team to develop a plan of attack to achieve your goals.

This can be done face-to-face or more commonly over the phone. Calls or video conferencing is becoming commonplace for one-on-one mindset coaching sessions. This style of mindset life coaching is best for people who want specific, individualized, and focused assistance.

Mindset Coaching Qualifications

While it is not a requirement for a mindset coach to be licensed in any other mental health field, it is not exclusionary. The main requirement is a deep passion for others and a sense of calling to the profession. There are many certification programs available, some very comprehensive, and some lacking. But before you decide on a coach or choose a credentialing entity, be clear on what you want.

Wanting a Mindset Coach:

If you are looking for a qualified coach, be sure and interview them as you would any other professional before you hire them. This is an intimate relationship that you will have possibly for years. Be sure you trust and like the individual you choose, in addition to their paper qualifications.

Looking to Become a Coach:

If you are actively looking at the course programs, be sure you find one that has the right gut feel. You know as soon as you see their information if you are going to struggle with it. This is the first step into the rest of your life. Make sure you feel right about it. You will be telling your future clients “if it doesn’t feel right, then don’t do it.” So that is the first bit of advice you should take and use.
